This year’s ArtLink Teacher Handbook cover features art created by a young artist from Sri Lanka.  The name of the art work is “Fishing on Poles” by K. A. Erandinie S. from the Children’s Art Circle/ Colombo Children’s Book Society in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The artist describes her work, “In this picture there is swimming and swimming is good for your health.” The image features local fisherman balanced on poles with nets, ready to fish. Fishermen on poles/stilts have come to represent patient perseverance in Sri Lanka for centuries and it is a tradition passed down from generation to generation.

Erandine is presenting the handbook, with her art on the cover, to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.  Pictured next to Erandinie is her very proud father, D.Ambalampitiya.
