Our Mission

We connect and empower young people around the world through the exchange of arts and ideas, transforming authentic interaction into cultural understanding and a commitment to global citizenship.

Our Vision

Our Vision

We envision a worldwide community of young people empowered by awareness, cultural understanding and empathy to fulfill their roles as global citizens.

Our Values
Authentic
Communication
We encourage nurturing open, thoughtful, honest expression, inspiring students to share their own stories, ideas and values.

Equality

We believe all human beings, regardless of age, race, gender, ability, or country of origin, have equal value. We actively challenge stereotypes and, in all aspects of our work, view our partners as equals and essential contributors to our mission.

Empathy

With an open mind and heart, we foster understanding, appreciation, and respect for other cultures, individuals and the things they hold dear.
Global
Citizenship
We believe all people share a common humanity that transcends national, political, cultural and religious divides. We inspire students to not only identify as members of their own cultural communities, but as citizens of an interconnected world, understanding how decisions and actions in one region may affect people living in another.”

Our Global Voices Initiative

Our Global Voices Initiative

Global Voices is the new name for the range of Creative Connection’s exchange programming focused on creative expression and student voices.

Global Voices delivers global understanding through interactive classroom partnerships, where students engage through art and live videoconferencing. This peer-to-peer approach encourages students to share their experiences, perspectives, and questions.

The ultimate goal of Global Voices is to transform global engagement into empathetic global citizenship, inspiring students to care – and to take an active role in their communities in an interconnected world.

Our programs vary on the level of partner engagement and collaboration. They range from one-hour workshops to ten-day student tours.

Educators can enroll in the program that best suits their needs. Our current programs include:

  • ArtLink – Our original virtual exchange program, inviting students in partner classes to give voice to their culture and stories through the creation and sharing of art
  • LifeLines: Environmental Dialog for Youth Empowerment – an in-depth virtual exchange, over 20 class hours, between overseas partners that includes creative sharing, multiple videoconferences, and collaborative project work in local communities
  • Globe Trekkers – International student/teacher tours with immersive experiences with local student peers and experts
  • Workshops
    • Ugandan Performance Workshops – A virtual session featuring a performance by talented Ugandan students followed by live interactive experiences with those students
    • TheaterConnect: Bridging Cultural Divides – A virtual exchange between partner classes utilizing theater, storytelling, and music to explore cultural heritage and/or social issues

Why Art?

Why Art?

For Creative Connections, art is a means, not an end.

As connectors of students around the world for over 30 years, we have discovered that the creation and sharing of art is a most effective way to initiate authentic communication and cultural understanding.

Art is an accessible, universal language, requiring no translation.  Unlike texting and social media, the creation of art requires creative thought and focus. Art requires students to take time to reflect on their unique culture, values, and state of mind in conceiving and creating their pieces.

In short, art allows students to tell their own story. Art builds empathy and provides a tangible springboard for deeper cultural exploration.

As one educator puts it: “When you see and study another’s art, you’re seeing the world through their eyes. When you create, you’re letting the world see through yours.”
