This is our grandmother’s home. There we can find “jak trees” that grow in most parts of Sri Lanka. We can pick the fruits as it is available at lower heights. We use mature fruits as an alternative for rice. We called is a “Tree of Rice” and from it we eat ripe jak. It is very sweet used as a dessert. Seeds of the mature or ripe fruit can be boiled or roasted which tastes like chestnuts and is a very tasty and nutritious and natural snack.
