In early February, Creative Connections’ Operations Director Miguel Barreto travelled to Guatemala’s Maya Biosphere Preserve to conduct a day-long workshop for teachers participating in our Rainforest ArtLink programming. Miguel’s workshop was part of a multi-day program organized by the Rainforest Alliance’s education team as part of their effort to bring conservation curriculum to rainforest communities. Rainforest ArtLink is an important part of this effort. Not only do US students learn about life and culture in the rainforest, but students and teachers in the rainforest learn to examine and value their culture as they prepare to share it with their US partners. As a result, the Guatemalan students, teachers and the broader community are empowered and encouraged to protect and preserve their heritage and their environment.
