About Summer Youth Connection (SYC)
This summer, we connected Ukrainian youth affected by war with their local peers in Norwalk. We need your help.
Teens attending RaDity – Радіти “A Space for Children to Get Happy” summer camp in Western Ukraine and art school students from The Norwalk Art Space shared their culture and personal stories through an exchange of art and live videoconferencing.
Located in the wooded countryside in Western Ukraine, “Space” provided a haven for children who have been traumatized by the war affecting their family and friends.
Age: 12-18 year olds
Number of Participants: 14-18 students from each partner (28-36 total)
Dates: July 25 – August 4
SYC Goals
- To give Ukrainian and USA participants an understanding of their peers and the stories they want to tell.
- To enable participants to know they have peers in each other’s countries who care about them and who want to be friends. They are not alone!
- To aid, through our programming, the healing process that the camp embraces.
- To bring the light of friendship to all participants. To engage the students in an experiential creative process as they conceive, create, and share pieces that express their ideas through the universal language of the arts.
