Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which falls on the last Monday in May.Memorial Day is a day of remembering and honoring the men and women who died while in the military service. The holiday originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. It is a day to celebrate our patriotism and allegiance to this great country. It also typically marks the beginning of the summer season. This art piece is entitled, “Oh Sweet USA” by Jade Noell age 11 from New York.  She describes her piece“A person is saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag.  The person is proud of his country.  The value I am depicting is patriotism to my country.  I believe that every American should love their country and pledge allegiance to their flag.”
