Programming: Global Voices

We are continuing to develop our new programming initiative, Global Voices, the new name for the range of Creative Connection’s exchange programming focused on creative expression and student voices.

Global Voices delivers global understanding through interactive classroom partnerships, where students engage through art and live videoconferencing. This peer-to-peer approach encourages students to share more freely their experiences, perspectives, and questions.

The ultimate goal of Global Voices is to transform global engagement into empathetic global citizenship, inspiring students to care – and to take an active role in their communities in an interconnected world.

Uniting: TheaterConnect

Using theatre and storytelling, TheaterConnect Program Manager, Tim Steckler, orchestrated two cross-cultural workshops this Spring, one uniting students in Norwalk, CT with their peers in Ukraine, and the other between music groups from Bridgeport, CT and Medellin, Colombia. Workshop participants forged connections that transcended borders, fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

After the Colombian students, who were learning to play string instruments, shared a version of Pachelbel’s Canon, a couple of Bridgeport students were inspired to perform their own original piece. Please enjoy watching this brief clip.

We are thrilled to welcome back Sofia Canessa, our Communications Associate, from Guatemala, where her two-month exploration deeply immersed her in the culture and enriched her understanding of its people. A highlight of her trip was the 2-day trek at the Acatenango/Fuego volcano pictured to the right. She is excited to be back and eager to bring her renewed perspective and gained experiences back to the office!
