ANNOUNCING We’re thrilled to announce that, this spring, with Mandala Theater in Nepal, we will conduct Participatory Theater workshops to explore cultural heritage with students in the USA & Nepal. This program will be led by Alan Steckler, Founder & President of Creative Connections, and his son, Tim Steckler, Applied Theatre Educator and Facilitator. Building on our previous work with the Communities Connecting Heritage Program (CCH), sponsored by the US Department of State, and World Learning, featuring student-led workshops, this project will involve CCH alumni students in Nepal facilitating a series of virtual workshops for ten local classrooms (250 students) in Connecticut using participatory theatre techniques.
GIVING
You have helped us knock down walls of ignorance, indifference, and fear between the thousands of children we work with around the world. Your gift will help us carry on the work of using the arts for global understanding and healing. INNOVATING As part of ArtLink Online, we have created simple brief tutorials for many of the lessons and for this year’s theme, to be used by our teachers and their students. “It is amazing! The videos on each section are short, kid friendly, very student accessible and full of great vocabulary. They are so well done! I like that the directions are in audio, text and visual. I like the sounds wherever there is something the student is supposed to do…It is just so exciting! I want to jump right in with my students!” -ArtLink Teacher from the USA
RECOGNIZING Thank you to our generous friends and donors who have contributed to the 2020-2021 ArtLink Scholarship Fund. This year’s donors include Robert Woods, Nancy & Bruce Blasnik, Monroe & Rob Fried, Alan & Debbie Steckler, David & Lisa Schlakman, and Jennifer Knebel. We also wish to thank everyone who donated to the David Hurwitt Scholarship Fund.
REMEMBERING David was Creative Connections’ long-term Board Chairman. His eye for capturing the dignity, culture, and spirit of those he met on his world travels, and his joy in sharing his insights creatively, was an example for us all. To carry on his legacy of making meaningful connections that both broaden and deepen global perspective, we are honored to establish The David Hurwitt Scholarship Fund This fund will enable underserved students in the USA and around the world to engage in arts-based exchanges that foster global understanding and empathy.
