We will be asking the students in our programs to illustrate an aspect of their culture that is particularly meaningful, one that expresses a cultural value or belief that they want to share.
The piece could feature an activity that the student feels is unique or special to their culture, one that takes place once in a lifetime, or once a year, or even once a day. It could illustrate something they are proud of or something in their society that they are concerned about.
Whatever aspect the student chooses, we ask that they place themselves somewhere in their art piece. The student can appear as an active participant in, or as a spectator of, the activity or scene they are depicting. The student can choose to include all of themselves, or just one part (a head, an arm, etc.) They will be asked to identify where they appear on the artist description that will accompany their art piece.
