About the Artwork

What is going on in your piece:
The girl on the right (in black and white) has lost all hope that she will get through this pandemic and that she will be able to get back up. The girl on the left (in color) has hope that we will get through this. The hands touching and the color being shared symbolizes hope and how being together with people can give us hope as opposed to when we are alone surrounded by news reports and case numbers.

How are you feeling during this time?
During this pandemic I feel hopeful that this will end sooner than later. I am optimistic that we will get back to our normal routines and will be able to go out with friends again and go back to family gatherings. But until then we should all follow lock down procedures and stay home. And know that while we are alone we are alone together.

Other thoughts you would like to share with students from around the world:
This current pandemic has caused people to socially distance but that doesn’t mean that we should lose hope, we have to support each other. We may have not expected this to happen and therefore we didn’t appreciate the value of togetherness and being together and took it for granted. When we are alone and feel like there is no hope, we then start to appreciate and realize the value of togetherness and being surrounded by others. This pandemic has taught me to not take the little things for granted such as the value of togetherness, because while it may seem like it’s not that valuable in times like these it can be our only hope.
