About the Artwork

Medium: Mixed

My painting represents an original tradition in my village called: The dance of the deer. Music is played with the marimba, a typical drum symbolic to Guatemala. There are three people who play this instrument accompanied by 11 dancers. The dancers are symbolic, one of the dancers represents to play, another represents a hunter, and the wife of a hunter.

“There is also a dancer that represents the dog. The other dancers represent the deer. This traditional dance is held at the Catholic Church from December 15th-25th. Many people come to see the dance and learn of our traditions. I love to smile and have my picture taken. I am well behaved and love to play soccer. I also love to eat chicken. My dream is to have a Bachelor’s degree in natural science.”
