A bride and groom are exchanging the sake cup of San San Kudo [translated, “three- three- nine- times”] at their wedding. This traditional Japanese wedding ceremony is very important. (San-San-Kudo is performed by the bride and groom and both sets of parents; they take 3 sips of sake from 3 cups with the total being nine times Ku, or 9 is a lucky number in Japanese culture.)
