What Is the Story?
When I was younger my dad used to come home from his job in New York and give me caramel candy from a Russian store nearby his job.

I chose this story because it reminded me of sweet memories between my father and I.

I don’t really remember, I just know it was when I was in elementary school and younger.
What do you want to be Understood about You/Your Culture?
How much a simple piece of Russian candy matters to me and the moments I still value years later.
About the Artist
Family Details
My dad was born and raised in Latvia, where he grew up speaking Russian. My mom also speaks Russian but she lived in Crimea. They immigrated here more than twenty years ago.
In What Ways is Cultural Heritage Important?
It gives me a background, a story to tell those who ask. Growing up with parents who hold Russian values in the U.S. was very different than the average kid in Connecticut.
Likes and Dislikes
I like hanging out with my best friend and her family because they help me relax and make me happy. I also like candy and spicy foods. I don’t like things I don’t understand, like sometimes math. I don’t like snakes because I have a phobia of them.
Free Time Activities
I love to watch films and shows. If I’m up to it, I might go on a run.
My Role Model
I think Sofia Coppola is, since I love her movies so much and her fancy life, I also love Charli XCX because her party lifestyle is something I aspire to have.
Career Goals
I want to be a film director because of my love for movies, but my mom is very against an artistic job.
