About the Artwork

The New Year Festival of Sri Lanka is the most celebrated cultural event occurring in April, during the spring. As a harvesting festival, it is associated with agriculture and sun. The environment adorned in fruits and flowers. The melodious songs of Cuckoo birds signal the arrival of New Year. For the children, it’s a joyful time filled with play family gatherings and gifts. Overall, the festival embodies a spirit of peace and prosperity. This is my most favorite cultural event.
We’re all dressed in new traditional clothes. I am swinging, while my mother cooks milk rice, and my sister and father are sharing New Year wishes. Two aunties play traditional drums called “Banka Raban” and a Cuckoo bird is singing nearby. A tree heavy with cashew fruits stands in the background.

There are four members in my family; father, mother, sister and me. My father lives in USA and I live with my mother and sister in Sri Lanka.
I love to eat pizza, drink fruit juice. I like the color pink and unicorns. I love my family. I really enjoy music and dancing. I don’t like fighting.
I want to be a doctor, because I want to help save people’s lives.
