My picture shows the Mayan Itza ceremony celebrated on May 13. The ceremony explains the importance of our environment and respect for animals, earth, and water. The sun is a spiritual guide for the Mayans. I am depicting the value of keeping the traditions of our ancestors.

My parents, little sister, and I live by Lake Peten. They work hard and are kind. In my free time I relax by doing yoga, and study, listen to music, and play. I would like to be a doctor. To preserve the environment, at school we plant ceiba trees, pick up trash, and do our community “cleaning train.”

Esta es una ceremonia Maya Itza que nosotros celebramos cada 13 de mayo. Durante la ceremonia la gente explica lo importante que es nuestro medio ambiente y el respeto que debemos tener por los animales, el agua y la tierra, respetarlo, para los Mayas el sol es como un guia espiritual.

Tengo una buena familia, ellos trabajan fuerte, vivimos cerca del lago Petén Itza y tengo una hermana menor. Me gusta hacer yoga, estudiar, escuchar musica y jugar. Quiero ser un doctor cuando crezca.
