About the Artwork

In my piece, my sister and I are decorating the house with lanterns and rangoli (an Indian long-standing folk art, in which patterns are created on the floor using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, and more. The bright designs are usually made during auspicious events like Diwali, Onam, Pongal, and other Indian festivals.) This tradition takes place in everyone’s house for Diwali in India. The values that I am illustrating in my piece are: traditional festival decorations within our home, dressing up with smart looking clothes for the festival and not using crackers that are harmful to our environment. I can preserve the environment by not throwing dried flowers in water and not bursting crackers.

I have a nuclear family that consists of my mother, father, younger brother and me. My father is a Software Engineer. In my free time I like to play with my little brother, draw and color pictures and write my own poems. I don’t like to keep things pending (procrastinate). I like to participate in every activity at my school. I want to be a doctor and a poet when I grow up.
