The dictionary defines Easter eggs as:

1. A dyed or decorated egg, traditionally associated with Easter.
2. A hidden feature, for example in computer software, a DVD, or a video game.

Easter, also called the Pascha (Latin) is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament of the bible.

Easter falls in the spring, the yearly time of revitalization, when the earth renews itself after a long, cold winter. Eggs, rabbits and lilies are all symbols of rebirth and fertility. It is thought that an egg appears to be like the stone of a tomb and that it is distinctive because a bird hatches from it with life.

Easter eggs are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime. The practice of decorating eggs has a long history.  In Africa, 60,000 year old ostrich eggs with engraved decorations have been found.

The second definition of an Easter egg is an intentional hidden message, inside joke, one of the best known examples of this is the various “Hidden Mickeys” that can be found throughout the Walt Disney Theme Parks. Happy Easter!
